August 2020

Kwai everyone!

Welcome to the second issue of the Ko’asek Tribal Tidbits!  Today’s quote is from “365 Days of Walking the Red Road” by Terri Jean (Thank you Chief Paul):

It is in peace that our women and children can enjoy happiness and increase in numbers

By Chief John Ross, Cherokee, 1790-1866

Recipe

For August, I would like to share a recipe from:  First Nation’s Cookbook by Sandra McGrath (Sandra is our Tribal Elder and Sub-Chief).

  • 4 cups of flour
  • 2 tsp of salt
  • 2 Tbsp of baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Add a little bit of water at a time to flour, powder, salt and mix. Roll into small balls. Pat flat with hole in the middle. Fry in oil at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until brown both sides.

Enjoy!
