Welcome to the second issue of the Ko’asek Tribal Tidbits! Today’s quote is from “365 Days of Walking the Red Road” by Terri Jean (Thank you Chief Paul):
It is in peace that our women and children can enjoy happiness and increase in numbersBy Chief John Ross, Cherokee, 1790-1866
For August, I would like to share a recipe from: First Nation’s Cookbook by Sandra McGrath (Sandra is our Tribal Elder and Sub-Chief).
- 4 cups of flour
- 2 tsp of salt
- 2 Tbsp of baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups water
Add a little bit of water at a time to flour, powder, salt and mix. Roll into small balls. Pat flat with hole in the middle. Fry in oil at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until brown both sides.
